Our lives are full of things to do that keep us busy and on the go. An easy way to keep your energy up, and keep you going strong is to add boosters to your diet.
Seeds don’t look like much. Because they’re so small, we tend to think there’s little value in them. Seeds though, offer incredible supplements to our blood and tissues, aid digestion, and help to sustain your energy throughout your day; these are what make them a necessity. Take a look.
Chia seeds are a superfood! Just 2 tablespoons gives you 10 grams of fiber.
More good info: you get 15% of your daily intake of calcium,10% iron, and 8% protein! Add them to your smoothies, yogurt, iced tea or lemonade, stir fry, steamed vegetables, anything and everything!
Wild rice is actually a grass seed. It is higher in protein than other whole grains, gives you folate, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, vitamin B6, and niacin. Wild rice has 30x the antioxidants of white rice. ElitePT personal trainers eat a lot of wild rice!
Hemp seeds will become a staple in your diet, if they’re not already! Hemp is a fantastic source of omega-3 fatty acids. By adding only 2 tablespoons of hemp seeds, you’re also getting 10 grams of protein! Want more stats: 25% thiamin, 8% vitamin B6, 45% phosphorus, 20% iron and zinc, 45% magnesium! and a whopping 110% manganese! Toss them into your salad, wild rice, and atop steamed vegetables to enrich your meal. If you have lactose intolerance, you’ll find that hemp milk is a great replacement for dairy.
Sunflower seeds are tasty, filling, satisfying and just 1 oz. gives you 1/2 your daily intake of vitamin E. Sunflower seeds are high in healthy fats, which we need, for balance in the nervous systems. You can eat them raw, add them to your smoothies, salads, rice, even oatmeal.
Pomegranate seeds have made a lot of headlines in recent years, and with good reason. They’re high in vitamin C and antioxidants. Also referred to as arils, 1 cup gives you 150 calories, which makes them a perfect snack. Pomegranate seeds are sweet, juicy and really refreshing. You’re helping hydration at the same time as gaining energy.
Sesame seeds! They’re so little, what benefit could they bring? Sesame seeds are one of the most versatile ingredients you can get. Whole seeds are rich in fiber and protein. Sesame oil is high in fatty acid that can help lower bad cholesterol. If you grind them into a paste, you’re making a peanut butter substitute called ‘tahini‘, good for people with nut allergies. Sesame seeds bring flavour with their healthy factors, too. Combine equal parts sesame oil and soy sauce to use as your salad dressing! Surprisingly, totally delicious!
In addition to these superfoods, you can also enjoy getting nutritional value out of pumpkin seeds that are full of magnesium, quinoa for more protein and fiber, organic flax seed (ground is best) for more omega3 and fiber, to help lower blood pressure.
